Who can use Door-2-Door Transport?
To be able to use Door-2-Door Transport, you will need to meet one of our criteria, as set out below. You will also need to live within one of the Membership Catchment Areas of the service.
What are the criteria for the Door-2-Door Transport service?
You are eligible to become a member if one of the following applies:
- you are in receipt of the higher rate mobility component of Disability Living Allowance;
- you are in receipt of the higher rate care component of Disability Living Allowance;
- you are in receipt of the higher rate care component of Attendance Allowance;
- you are registered blind;
- you are 80 years of age or older.
If none of the above applies to you, you can apply for membership through your doctor (he/she will need to confirm that you find it difficult or impossible to use mainstream public transport).
What if I do not live in one of these areas?
This service is for people who live in urban areas. If you do not live in one of the areas listed above, there may be a Rural Community Transport Partnership operating in your area which may suit your transport needs. Please telephone 0845 650 1190, and your call will be directed to the Partnership nearest to you. Alternatively, please visit www.communitytransport-ni.com
- there you will be able to find the contact details of the Partnership operating in your area.
How much does it cost to join the Door-2-Door Transport service?
Nothing - membership is free!
Can I bring someone to travel with me?
Yes you can! You can bring up to two essential companions with you, should you wish to do so. The companion(s) will pay the same fare as you. You may also bring with you your spouse (should this person not be your companion) and any dependant children you have. Other non-essential companions can travel with you as well, under certain conditions.
When can I use Door-2-Door Transport?
Services run from 7:30 in the morning until 11:30 at night, every day of the week.
How do I make a booking on the Door-2-Door Transport service?
Once you have registered to become a member of the Door-2-Door Transport service, we will send you a Membership Welcome Pack. This pack will include a Membership Smartcard and details of who to contact to book your trip.
You are advised to book your trip at least 24 hours in advance but you can book up to the time of travel, subject to availability.
The Booking Centre is open from 9:00am to 5:00pm Monday to Friday, and 9:00am to 12:00pm on Saturdays.
How much will each journey cost?
Your first trip (single or return) is free! After that, you will be charged a flat fare of £1.50, per single journey, to travel anywhere within your local area (known as the Operational Area). You may be able to travel beyond this distance (see below) but it will cost more than the flat fare.
You are being given the opportunity to try the service for free, to see if it is suitable for your needs. You are under no obligation to use the service again. However, we think that you will want to use it regularly!
How far can I travel on the Door-2-Door Transport service?
You can travel anywhere within your entire local area (this is known as the Operational Area) for the £1.50 flat fare (single trip).
We understand that you may, from time to time, wish to travel outside your Operational Area. However, priority will be given to those members wishing to travel within the Operational Area.
Therefore, we will only confirm a requested journey which takes you outside your area at the end of the booking period (4pm) prior to the day of travel, and provided the schedule for the next day has sufficient room at that time to allow such a trip to be undertaken.
You should also note that if you do wish to travel outside your Operational Area, there will be an additional charge of 50p per mile (or any part of that mile).
Will I be able to use my Concessionary Travel pass?
No. The Door-2-Door Transport service will not operate concessionary travel.
